Approximately 60 million people in Bangladesh currently live in urban areas and this number is rising very fast. Climate change events like higher surface water levels, flooding, land erosion, and droughts are driving more people to towns and cities every year, putting extra strain on already expanded water and sanitation resources. 19 million people live in the capital city, Dhaka, and 40% of these live in informal and often illegal settlements.
These heavily-packed communities have a lesser number of proper toilets; human waste mix with running water and raw sewage drains directly goes into rivers. Nearly half the population in urban areas has no access to improved sanitation facilities, impacting their health, safety, dignity, and economic opportunities.
Dost Aid Bangladesh society worked with service providers in Bangladesh since 2014. In this time we have focused on economically and environmentally sustainable measures to increase access to safe and affordable water and sanitation in the poorest urban communities. While in 2016, 2017, 2019 a total number of 262 tube-wells including shallow and semi-deep were sunk in the various location of Bangladesh. In this regard, Dost Aid Bangladesh society requires more funds for conducting water and sanitation programs all over Bangladesh to help the poor people access safe sustainable water sources and sanitation services.
