Water and Sanitation

Approximately 60 million people in Bangladesh currently live in urban areas and this number is rising very fast. Climate change events like higher surface water level, flooding, land erosion, and droughts are driving more people to towns and cities every year, putting extra strain on already expanded water and sanitation resources. 19 million people live in the capital city, Dhaka, and 40% of these live in informal and often illegal settlements.

Skill Development for poorest youth

Bangladesh is a country of over 170 million people. The share of population within 15-24 years is close to 20 percent and the median age of its people is a little over 20 years. Thus Bangladesh is uniquely positioned to reap the benefits of this “demographic dividend”. But how many of them have the opportunity to enter the labor market? According to official statistics, overall unemployment rate is 4.2 percent in Bangladesh. However, youth unemployment rate is 10.6 percent. What do these young people do? Are they studying? Are they going through training? No, not all of them. The share of youth from within the total youth population in the country who are neither in education, nor in employment or training is 29.8 percent.

Emergency Relief and Rehabilitation

Bangladesh is among the countries that are most affected by the consequences of climate change-today and especially in the coming decades. The poorest people, who contribute least to it, suffer the most. The impact of regular floods and cyclones is steadily increasing. In rural areas, Dost Aid Bangladesh society supports the poorest families to adapt to the impacts of climate change by giving free foods, clothes, pure water, and medicine.

For eliminating poverty, Dost Aid Bangladesh society started its micro-finance program by giving loans without interest for small business like grocery, goat rearing, poultry, betel-nut selling, rickshaw/ van pulling and tea selling, etc. Thus a good level of socio-economic impact has been seen in the community. Dost Aid Bangladesh society helps poor community develop entrepreneurship in society and be self-dependant, rather than looking for jobs.
